I’ll try not to step all over your pride - or mine - with this question.
But that’s probably impossible.
Because the question, “What drives you to keep writing?” confronts our deepest motives and intentions.
For me, I think part of the driving motivation behind my writing is the asthma attack I had around age 10 that almost killed me. Knowing how fragile life is and how short our time is motivates me to try to say things worth saying while I can.
But maybe that’s the motivation I want myself to believe. Perhaps it’s simply because I like the attention.
